Brachyglottis is a genus of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family; a genus which has existed since November 29, 1775 when Johann Reinhold Forster & Georg Forster created the genus with this name from the Greek words brachus meaning short and glottis meaning "the vocal apparatus of the larynx" or tongue referring to the size of the ray florets.
